   | ETEC 123 Introduction to Photovoltaic Systems4 creditsDirect conversion solar (Photovoltaic) is one of several viable alternative energy sources. In this course, students will gain the skills necessary to analyze a site and determine if requisite conditions have been met to support a viable Photovoltaic power generation system. Includes laboratory.

Prerequisites: ETEC 110  or instructor permission.

 Student Outcomes/Competencies:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Explain the concepts of solar energy and how it is usedApply basic electrical measurements and calculations in regards to solar power needsAnalyze a solar thermal system’s ability to produce energyAnalyze a potential solar energy site to determine if it will support the needs of a photovoltaic systemDescribe safety aspects of mechanical load on support structuresDescribe and review current regulations and environmental laws, including permit laws, regarding the construction of a photovoltaic energy systemDescribe the steps and materials needed for a photovoltaic construction projectDescribe in detail the components of a functional stand-alone photovoltaic systemCalculate the return on investment of a photovoltaic power system
