APDZ 332 Entrepreneurship & Design

5 credits
A practical study of how design innovations lead to new opportunities. Issues of copyright, patent, license, marketing, securing capital and freelancing will be discussed. Students will create a business plan for an entrepreneurial design venture.

Prerequisites: Admission to BTAD program or instructor permission.

This course teaches to the global outcome of Intercultural Appreciation.

Student Outcomes/Competencies:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Identify common issues and considerations designers face with patents, copyrights and licenses
  • Identify where opportunities have historically existed in the design business and predict where future opportunities may exist
  • Perform market research and analyze a marketing plan
  • Describe options for securing capital and identify common issues and considerations of each option
  • Develop a business plan suitable for sharing with a potential funding source
