MACH 122 Machining Practice: Tools - Tap Handle, Clamp, and Punch8 credits While making a tap handle, parallel clamp and center punch, students learn more advanced tooling processes common to the machine trades.
Prerequisites: MATH 087 and ABED 046 (or equivalent placement scores for MATH 098 or higher and ENGL 093 or higher) and MACH 110 (pre or corequisite) or instructor permission Quarters Offered: Winter, Summer
Student Outcomes/Competencies: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Mill flats on a round surface
- Use slotting attachment to broach a square corner
- Knurl small diameter parts
- Identify and machine tool steels
- Turn an angle that extends over 6 diameters
- Harden and temper tool steels
- Use geometric die head
- Turn radii
- Machine angles on mills
- Turning grooves
- Effectively work in groups by supporting and communicating with other team members
