EASL 032 Computer-Assisted ESL Reading and Writing

1-6 credits
ESL students improve language skills while developing keyboarding and computer literacy skills. This course supports student transition into I-BEST coursework in Business and Information Technology.

Prerequisites: EASL 015  or equivalent CASAS placement.
Corequisites: EASL 016 , or EASL 030 , or EASL 040 .

Student Outcomes/Competencies:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Open programs and accessories and create and save basic documents in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Read and follow instructions for performing basic computer functions
  • Convey ideas in writing by keyboarding at 30 wpm for three minutes, with less than three errors, while paying attention to conventions of English language usage (grammar, spelling, and sentence structure)
  • Use Word to correct spelling and grammar and replace words with synonyms
  • Summarize simple readings by using presentation software
  • Read graphs and charts and transfer information from written sources to graphs and charts
