BUS 350 Entrepreneurial Finance

5 credits
This course covers the financial aspects of the management of small businesses and entrepreneurial firms. Focus is on financial statements, forecasting, and capital budgeting, including working capital, raising capital, and use of fincial statements in management. The course also covers initial development of the pro-forma financials for the business plan.

Prerequisites: ACCT& 201  and admission to the BASAME program

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Evaluate the potential of a new start-up idea and build supporting spreadsheet financial models
  • Investigate the amount and source of external capital necessary for an entrepreneurial firm, including venture capital, angel financing, venture debt, crowdfunding, and traditional funding sources such as bank loans
  • Analyze a firm’s working capital management and explain its relation to growth
  • Critique the liquidity choices for private firms and the timing of exit decisions
