LASR 230 Capstone Project

2 credits
The capstone project occurs in the final quarter prior to graduation. Students apply and demonstrate competency in the knowledge and skills learned throughout the Laser and Optical Technology associate degree. Project details are negotiated between the instructor and students to best fit the students’ individual or group areas of interest within the field. This course also provides the opportunity for students to collaborate with other STEM programs to build relevant, hands-on projects that will enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Prerequisites: LASR 201 LASR 202 LASR 203 LASR 204 LASR 205 LASR 206 LASR 207 LASR 208 , and LASR 209  

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Utilize knowledge gained in the program to demonstrate competency in the field of photonics
  • Complete an assigned project from concept to final completion
  • Communicate information to superiors, peers, and subordinates
  • Demonstrate for peers and undergo a peer review of materials, processes, and methodology
  • Employ industry acceptable documentation techniques
  • Self-assess learning needs and design, implement, and evaluate strategies to promote intellectual growth and continued professional competence
