DHYG 335 Community Dental Health I2 credits Students study the health-disease continuum from the viewpoint of the community, the basic concepts of community dental health, and the dental hygiene process of care model, as it relates to health communities.
Prerequisites: DHYG 258 , DHYG 321 , DHYG 322 , DHYG 323 , DHYG 324 , DHYG 325 , and DHYG 329
Corequisites: DHYG 331 , DHYG 332 , DHYG 333 , DHYG 336 , and DHYG 338
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain a health promotion community project, focusing on assessment, diagnosis and planning
- Describe basic concepts of community dental health
- Explain the role of dental hygienists in oral health education and promotion
- Describe the Process of Care model for healthy communities
- Describe current public health prevention modalities
- Describe global dental hygiene care delivery
- Explain financing of dental care
- Explain the role of the dental hygienist as an agent for change
Program Outcomes This course teaches to the following program outcomes:
- be prepared to successfully complete all licensing exams required to practice in Washington State and obtain an entry-level position as a dental hygienist
- assess, plan, implement, and evaluate community-based health promotion and prevention programs to benefit the general population
Global Outcomes This course teaches to the global outcome of teamwork.
